Smart Grids for Rural Communities

Smart Grid Communities (SGC) is a social enterprise established to develop mini and micro grids in South Africa utilising renewable generation, typically solar PV, supplemented by small scale energy storage.
 

Smart Grid Communities will deliver projects for low-income communities living in rural areas. The business will initially develop projects with partners in South Africa, but has the aspiration to provide a template for projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

The business concept has been developed out of the work of a feasibility study project funded by Innovate UK.
